As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, I find myself craving spaces that offer gentle rhythms and quiet support. For mothers and parents like me, these places become more than just locations—they become sanctuaries where we can breathe, recharge, and feel connected. When I first came to Salinas, I did not know about many places and honestly, more have popped up in the 8 years since my arrival, and I am thankful. I want to share a few of my favorite places that help me find softness, grounded energy, and a little ritual to soothe my soul. I have also included a few places that I want to highlight for parents with young children that might need to find some space during the day.

Yoga Salinas, located in the Star Market Shopping Center, is a warm and welcoming studio that feels like a gentle hug. Its one of the first places I found when I came to Salinas and I have loved to see it grow, transform and be what I needed it to be in different phases of my time here. They offer a wide range of classes, from restorative and gentle yoga to breath-work, meditation, and energy-healing workshops. What I appreciate most is how inclusive their classes are—every body is welcome here. Whether you’re new to yoga or looking for a calm practice to ease tension, this studio provides a perfect environment to reconnect with your breath and body. As I was writing this, I wanted to include more places, and sometimes I wish we had the abundance that seems to be present on the Peninsula but honestly, Yoga Salinas has added so many classes and workshops to their schedule that you can find so much of what you need all in one place. AND, theres more! Right behind the back door, you will find Kelly at Air Fire Artistry, who can help ground you and give you spiritual guidance. Also within the confines of Yoga Salinas, you will find The Honey Hive! Here, you can settle in with the sacred practice of Yoni Steaming. It might sound a bit outside the box for some, but I know all will enjoy and benefit from this amazing experience. I find it worth it to mention that Adriana from Moonflower Sol has also inhabited that space in the past. I love to join her monthly Sound Bath offerings at Yoga Salinas and she offers countless other empowering sessions that she is worth a follow!

Overall, the instructors create a nurturing atmosphere where you can slow down without pressure. There are many other classes that I can't wait to try in the new year so if you are looking to explore too, let's go together! For me, attending a class here is like pressing pause on the busy world. It’s a chance to find inner ease and remind myself that softness is a strength.

The Body Shoppe: Unwinding Through Intentional Bodywork

When I need to release tension, The Body Shoppe on Maple Street is my go-to. This comforting space blends massage, and bodywork with intention, creating a holistic experience. Serena doesn't just work on muscles—she helps you unwind on a deeper level. I am honestly not sure how people walk this earth without seeing her. She will align your body and motivate you to keep yourself in alignment through daily movement. You can also find Serena at Yoga Salinas for her QiGong Class and her YoMassage sessions.

Also inside this unassuming spot, you will find Rosio and Monica who both offer massage services and are worth a look when you are in need of some relaxation. I can't leave their welcoming spot without grabbing a cup of tea from their tea bar. They offer local teas from Zum Zum and they even have honey! It's a beautiful experience to rest, release and leave with a warm cup of tea.

There’s something deeply grounding about walking through the Salinas Farmers Market on a Saturday morning. The market is alive with fresh produce, local artisans, and friendly neighbors. The colors, smells, and rhythm of the market create a sense of belonging and warmth. The first thing I do if I visit a new place is I look for a local farmers market. I am so glad that our town has a great market to visit. I have loved getting to know the vendors and their products. Its grown through the years and the weeks that I get to visit, I am happy!

For mothers, this market is more than a place to shop—it’s a space to connect with community and nature. I love how the market invites me to slow down, appreciate the season’s bounty, and feel part of something larger than myself. Now, this is when I can go by myself but that is not always the case. I also love to take my kids there so they get the experience of shopping outside, amongst other people, seeing small local businesses and interacting with the people that literally have their hands in making their passions come to life. Some of my favorite spots are; Secret Bakery for their delicious bread and pastries. Randy's Seamoss, for his refreshing and healing juices that my kids also love. Patti B for her delicious wildflower honey. Zum Zum for their local teas. Don't forget to grab some labne from the Hummus Guy and some empanadas from Cafe Guarani.

Parenting can feel isolating, especially in the early years. That’s why Parenting Connection Family Circles at the Community Impact Center have been such a blessing. These gatherings bring together caregivers and children ages 0–5 for play, learning, healing, and connection.

The atmosphere is gentle and supportive, offering a safe space to share experiences and build friendships. For anyone navigating the early days of parenthood, these circles provide a nurturing community that understands the challenges and joys of this season. While I don't get to bring my kids to these circles anymore, they still love when they get to come to work with me at Parenting Connection and see all the wonderful toys in the play space. Visit their website for schedules and upcoming classes. Don't miss my parenting class, Circle of Security, coming in January!

Rooted Wonder, located inside the Sylvan Learning Center, is a small indoor play center designed for children up to age 8, emphasizing imaginative and sensory-rich activities. The facility features slides, a ball pit, climbing structures, and a toddler zone, all crafted to encourage open-ended play in a nature-themed environment. Classes and workshops, such as art and storytelling, complement daily open play sessions, fostering developmental skills. A private party room and snack area make it a popular spot for birthdays, though the compact size limits larger groups. They have also collaborated with Colores Climbing Coffee to bring you a warming beverage while you enjoy watching your little one play.

You can enjoy Doula services during any point in your journey as a parent.

Whether you’re preparing for birth or adjusting to life with a new baby, my services focus on honoring your unique needs and rhythms. Simple Nourishment for Everyday Warmth

To wrap up this cozy post, I want to share one of my favorites — both for myself and for the families I support — is a cozy mug of golden milk.
I love using Diaspora Co.’s Golden Milk Spice Mix because it makes everything so easy: vibrant, ethically sourced spices blended perfectly, ready to whisk into your favorite milk. I often pair it with local honey and my own fresh-pressed cashew milk, something I regularly prepare for clients in my postpartum meal packages. It’s grounding, warming, and such a gentle way to nourish your body.
If you’re looking for a simple comfort to add to your evening routine (or a supportive drink for postpartum healing), this recipe is a beautiful place to start.

Golden Milk Recipe (Using Diaspora Co.)
Ingredients (1 serving)
  • 1 cup cashew milk (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 teaspoon Diaspora Co. Golden Milk Spice Mix
  • 1–2 teaspoons local honey, to taste
  • Optional: pinch of sea salt or splash of vanilla
Instructions
  1. Warm the cashew milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until it begins to steam (avoid boiling).
  2. Whisk in the Diaspora Co. Golden Milk Mix until fully dissolved and fragrant.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in local honey to taste.
  4. Pour into your coziest mug, sip slowly, and enjoy.
